Unlocking the Mysteries of My Fantasy Mythology
Today marks an exhilarating occasion as we witness the spectacle of a total eclipse. For me, this celestial event holds profound significance, resonating deeply with my lifelong fascination for the cosmos and its influence on our lives. In particular, the synergy of the sun and the moon symbolizes a potent celestial force—a testament to the awe-inspiring perfection of the universe.
Years ago, while crafting my inaugural fantasy novel, “The Lake of Miracles,” I drew inspiration from these cosmic elements to conceive a symbol that would become central to my mythology: The Mark of the Sun and the Moon. Its enigmatic presence is first encountered within the pages of a mysterious book that falls into the hands of King Tibor:
“He then entered and found a big, golden book, with a shiny cover and a strange mark that looked like it had come out of a dream. It was the drawing of a sun intertwined with the figure of a moon. Sometimes he would just stay engrossed on the mark, and he could spend hours and hours just observing the bright cover, stroking the mark again and again without understanding what power it was that the image exerted upon him. ”
This book, harboring the secrets of the universe, can only be deciphered by those bearing the mark upon their skin. Two pivotal characters, Elise embodying goodness and Dante epitomizing malevolence, possess this mark. I sought to convey that when the sun and the moon unite, their convergence unleashes a magic that can sway the course of fate—a theme explored within the pages of “The Lake of Miracles.”
Now, in my latest novel, “The New-Blood Fairy,” the mark resurfaces, not only etched upon a young girl’s skin but also adorning a pendant she possesses. The central prophecy foretells:
Immortal races opposing, in a world in which they don’t belong, the mystic symbol of the Sun will be reborn
and in the New-Blood Fairy, their destiny will be posed. The new world will fall in chains.
Her blood and tears are all that darkness claims. A brave heart fighting blind, a great battle wrecking the land.
A decision made in the darkest night, with all her strength win she might.
This iteration of the mark introduces fresh layers of meaning, igniting a renewed struggle between forces of good and evil. Yet, its significance transcends mere symbolism or fantastical abilities, as it becomes evident that true power lies in how one wields it—epitomized by the journey of sixteen-year-old Ella. Emerging from a coma with no recollection of her past, she gradually uncovers three profound truths: her non-human heritage, her latent powers stemming from forgotten memories, and the monumental task of saving the world without relying on them. In a vivid dream, she encounters the mark:
“I wore a strange metal armor with a mark on the chest: the sun intertwined with the moon. I recognized it. It was the same as the medallion I wore on my neck. A strange, but beautiful object, I always wore it, asleep or awake. For some reason, it felt like part of my body, as if that medallion was the only bridge between my memory and my unknown past.”
Subsequently discovering the mark etched upon her skin, Ella grapples with the weighty responsibility it entails—a journey of self-discovery and revelation.
Reflecting on this narrative journey, I cannot help but perceive the imminent release of my book as a cosmic affirmation—a validation of its timely emergence. The evolution of this tale, from its inception as “El Medallón” in Spanish to its final incarnation as “The New-Blood Fairy,” has been a labor of love and years of perseverance. Amidst personal struggles and creative uncertainties, I embarked on a parallel path, penning and publishing a non-fiction work, “The Anxious Mom Manifesto: 18 Lessons to Conquer Your Anxiety Monster,” (Morgan James Publishing, 2021) as a testament to my own battles with anxiety and the pursuit of a fulfilling life.
Last year, the convergence of these narratives, along with serendipitous encounters with publishing partners such as Paper Raven Books for the impending release of “The New-Blood Fairy,” and Penguin Random House Colombia for the Spanish edition of my non-fiction work slated for publication this summer, highlights the alignment of celestial forces—the sun and the moon—in shaping the trajectory of my literary endeavors. As “The New-Blood Fairy” prepares to grace the shelves, followed by the Spanish release of “18 Lecciones para Controlar tu Ansiedad,” I am humbled by the realization that these works represent the culmination of my aspirations—a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that dreams, however improbable, can indeed materialize.
May my journey and the pages of my books serve as a beacon of inspiration—a reminder of the boundless potential inherent in the union of the sun and the moon. Believe in the extraordinary, for it is within reach, waiting to be embraced. I extend an invitation to explore the realms of imagination within my stories, aspiring to kindle a spark of wonder and inspiration within your soul.
