I remember that day when you took my hand and walked me down the aisle.
My heart was beating fast, filled with emotions. It was the happiest day of my life. It was a dream coming true. Little did I know that while my heart what bouncing with joy, yours was getting broken.
Your little girl, the one that you once held in your arms was getting married and you could not do but wishing her well. Behind those sad eyes that tried desperately to hide your heartache, there was a strong man managing to tell her with a tender kiss how much you have loved her since the day she was born. She saw your eyes and wanted to hug you and give you thousands of kisses. What she really wanted to say was, “Do not worry daddy, I’ll be fine. You taught me everything I know. I will be a woman worthy and strong, I’ll be happy. And all of that is thanks to what I learned from you.”
You gave my hand to him. I could not see your tears, or feel the melancholy of your thoughts the moment you let me go, with another man.
Now when my daughter and her dad look at each other, I can see that spark, that undeniable and one of a kind love. A love I instantly recognize because it is the same I have always felt, and always will feel for my first love.
And they say you never forget that first love; that is the only one that lasts through the years. Whoever said it is absolutely right. Today I can tell you Dad, not only with pride but also with indescribable intensity, do not hesitate for a second. You’re that first man I ever loved.
Happy Father’s Day!!!
